The new M 03 Stutzen

A Stutzen has never been so versatile

Already more than a hundred years ago, shortly after Mauser had started to produce bolt action rifles, a Stutzen had been part of the product range. Today, Mauser picks up this tradition and now launches a Stutzen version of the bolt action rifle M 03 surprising with utmost flexibility. By just a few turns of the hand, the Stutzen can be converted into a standard M 03 with a regular stock and length.

Mauser has approached the product development from a technical and not just cosmetic viewpoint as befits the superior shooting abilities of the M 03. Hence the new Mauser Stutzen does not disappoint in looks or performance.
The secret is what is described as a split forend. Here, the forward wood does not consist of one complete piece, but two separate units. As before, the barrelled action sits in a standard, half-length stock and is free-floating for maximum accuracy and consistency potential. The Stutzen (forward) section is attached to the front of the barrel giving that elegant and timeless full-length build without detracting from the rifle’s ability to shoot. As being part of the barrel the forend cannot disturb the point of impact of the bullet!
Visually the dividing line between the forend sections is elegantly underlined by a drop point and black inlay. Should you prefer the more conventional looking half-length stock, simply remove the Stutzen barrel complete with its short, forward forend.

Fit a special end cap to the main forend and you can use any standard M 03 barrel. This unique design allows you to take advantage of both styles in a single rifle. In Stutzen-build the front sling swivel is on the forward forend section.

Only available in wood, the Stutzen’s stock design is similar to Mauser’s M 03 Alpine and shows a double fold, Bavarian cheek piece with a subtle hog’s back butt comb and re-shaped pistol grip (Kaisergrip). Three grades of walnut are available as is the option of the standard, all-steel action or the new Dural alloy Light version.

With their new M 03 Stutzen, Mauser offers that classic, full-length forend build in a modern, switch-barrel rifle, yet with the unique ability to revert to a standard half-stock layout with standard barrels as required.
